My personal logo process

Coming up with a logo is definitely a difficult job. It takes a lot of hair pulling, head banging, and brain damaging to actually brand yourself. Seriously, it took me about a month or two!

I didn't even want to start my blog until I actually came up with a logotype because at first I didn't want to use my name. I was in a tight decision between using my name or going with a made up design group. Of course, my name is boring and it sucks really bad, so I was leaning towards a made up name.

Then one day I decided to post a thread in logoponds forum to ask for opinions. I posted ..

Hey guys,

I'm new to logopond.com big_smile So, nice to meet you all..

Well, I am kind of in a personal dilemma here and I need some help. I want to launch my blog/folio site but I seem to can't think of a personal logo. The reason being is that.. My name sucks. sad My name is Paul Vu.. I seriously can NOT think of anything for "Paul Vu". I am usually very creative but.. not when it comes to my name. Argh. What do you guys think? Should I just work under a created name or keep on trying for "Paul Vu". I even tried playing around with my name. "Paw Vu" But when I thought about it.. pawvu.com looks kinda weird because of the w and v.

I've been stuck on this for two weeks and its killing my brain cells!

Opinions and ideas much appreciated. Thank you. smile

I got a few comments saying that I should stick to my name because Its short and memorable. Are you kidding me?! "Paul Vu" is so boring. Anyways, so I actually took their suggestions into consideration and started playing with my initials, PV. I came up with a whole lot of designs using my initials.

This was my process.

This was my process and this is my new logo. I am very happy I finally came up with it. I can finally sleep at night!

About

Who is he?
I'm Paul Vu, a graphics designer from Philadelphia, PA. I specialize in business advertising and logo designs. Recently, I have been doing a lot of flyers for various nightclub promoters. I work with quite a few promoters around the Tri-state area; Philadelphia, New Jersey, Delaware and even New York. I am hoping to expand my client list through my portfolio/blog and social networking.

How it started?
I am also a self-taught graphic designer. I never attended any art school nor took any graphic/web design class through my years of schooling. I am currently in my sophomore year of college, still under undecided but is currently leaning towards a graphic design degree. I taught myself graphic designing at the age of 10 using many Photoshop tutorials. Since then, I've moved on to 3D digital abstract work which is really the true inspiration that got me in graphic designing. I still design 3D digital abstract wallpapers on the side as a hobby. Now, I've moved onto advertising work which is my full time job.

Office?

Even though I am a self-employed graphic designer and work from my home office. I get a great deal of clients and socialize with many online networks. Though, having more clients would not hurt. Feel free to contact me for questions and quotes.

You can visit my portfolio label, which will showcase my most recent works.

Where is he from?
I was born and raised in Philadelphia, PA. Spent 20 years of my life here in Philly and is still established here in Philly. I grew up in many parts of Philadelphia, moving around to different schools and areas of Philadelphia. I know everything about this city and is familiar with many people.
